Free Calorie Counter App: Count Calories and Macros
GymEvo counts calories and macros for free, without a subscription, in the same app where you log your strength training and bodyweight. Add food by barcode, from a database of more than three million foods, or as a quick calorie entry.
Free to download on iOS and Android
The problem: your calorie app knows nothing about your training
A calorie-only app tells you whether you hit your target. It cannot tell you whether the target is right. For lifters, the training answers that: if you hold your weights during a cut, the deficit is probably not too large, and if your lifts climb while your bodyweight rises slowly during a bulk, the surplus is probably about right. GymEvo keeps your food log, your workout log, and your bodyweight in one app, so you answer the question with numbers instead of a feeling. GymEvo calculates your calorie target from age, height, bodyweight, activity, and goal, and can adjust it to your weigh-ins and logged food if you switch that on.
How it works in GymEvo
01
Track nutrition without the busywork
Search more than three million foods, scan barcodes, and create reusable foods and meals
Photograph a meal for an editable AI estimate or scan a nutrition label to prefill its values
Set calorie and macro targets that can adapt to your bodyweight goal and recent progress

02
Log every set while you train
Track weight, reps, timed sets, RPE, and notes while seeing previous performance and current targets
Use smart progression, calculated warm-up sets, and automatic or manual rest timers
Start a scheduled or quick workout, adjust it as you train, and load the bar with the built-in plate calculator

03
Cook recipes that fit your macros
Search recipes by meal, diet, dish type, or calorie range, and check the macros per serving before you start
Follow the steps in Cook Mode, with the ingredients for each step and timers where you need them
Log a recipe to your day with the servings you actually ate, and save the ones you want to cook again
Who it suits
A good fit if
You lift weights and want to see how a cut or a bulk affects your performance.
You want to count calories and protein without paying a subscription for the basics.
You eat a lot of packaged food and would rather scan barcodes than type entries.
Probably not for you if
You want a ready-made meal plan. GymEvo counts what you eat and sets a target, but it does not prescribe a diet.
You have or have had an eating disorder, or a medical condition shapes how you eat. Counting calories can then do harm or fall short, so talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian first.
What's free and what Premium adds
The full food log is free: barcode scanner, food database, custom foods, quick entry, macros, and detailed nutrients such as fiber, sugar, and sodium. Filling in a food from a photo of its nutrition label, calorie and macro targets with automatic adjustment, workout logging, bodyweight tracking with its chart, and the free recipes cost nothing either. The free app shows ads. Premium adds AI calorie and macro estimates from a meal photo, reusable custom meals, the calorie chart, weekly and monthly reviews, the full recipe catalog, and an ad-free app.
Some features require GymEvo Premium, an account, internet access, or device permissions. Availability and free limits can vary by platform and region.
Frequently asked questions
Is the calorie counter really free, or do I need a subscription?
You can count calories and macros in GymEvo without a subscription. The download, the food log, the barcode scanner, and the calorie target cost nothing, and the free app shows ads. Premium is an optional subscription for convenience features such as meal-photo estimates. The App Store or Google Play shows the current price, which can differ by country.
Can I use the app without an account?
No, you need a free GymEvo account, created with an email address or with Google. Your food log, workouts, and bodyweight are stored in that account and sync through it. You can export your data as CSV at any time and delete the account completely in the app.
Does the app include a calorie calculator?
Yes. GymEvo calculates your calorie target from age, height, bodyweight, activity level, and your goal of losing, maintaining, or gaining weight. It uses the same calculation as the daily calorie needs calculator on this website, which you can try in your browser first. You can also set calories and macro percentages yourself.
Can I count calories online in the browser?
No. GymEvo is an app for Android and iPhone, and the food log is not available in a browser. This website has calculators, such as the daily calorie needs calculator, but you cannot log meals here.
How accurate is counting calories with an app?
Accurate enough to steer a trend, not accurate to the calorie. Nutrition labels and database entries are approximations, and portions are easy to misjudge, AI photo estimates included. Weigh solid foods where you can, and judge your target by your bodyweight trend over two to three weeks rather than by a single day.
